To submit a walk you will need to use the web form Submit Walk

You will see the form has several ‘areas’.  Basic Details, Walk, Meeting, Start, Finish, Contact etc.

In the top left of each area is a black icon with either a or a these icons expand or contract the area.

Next to each the fields is a help icon to give you help regarding what you should enter.

A few points that are currently not adequately described in the ‘help’ pop ups.

Date of walk.   You should enter your preferred date for the walk any alternative dates should be given in the 'Editor's Notes’ at the bottom of the form. Any dates you are unavailable should also be specified in Editor’s Notes.  If you don’t have a preferred date then leave the field blank.

Distance. this should be a numeric value.  Do not enter any other information such as “Miles” or "Approx"  as the information you have entered will be lost.

Start. Specifying the start of the walk can be a somewhat clumsy. I would recommend you use the  button at the top left of the map. Use either what3words or a Grid reference  position the marker. Please see Specifing a starting point for a more detailed explaination of your options here.  If you make a mistake entering the grid reference or what3words you may find you can't amend it.  In that case close the pop-up using the button   then  you will then be able to amend the field.

Finish. Please enter a estimated finish time. If no value is given here then the finish time will be estimated.  Note: If you change the start time the finish time will not be changed so you must do that yourself.

Contact. The "Display Name:" needs to be the Full name of a Walk Leader as help by Walks Manager. If the Walk Leader has granted permission to display their name is will appear as First name and intial letter of the Surname.  If there are two walk leaders please use their fulll name and separate the with a semi colon.

Facilities, Accessibility and Transport

Ticking the applicable boxes may help walkers to choose or avoid a walk at a glance.   e.g. A walker may wish to go on a walk that doesn't have stiles.

At any time you can click button at the top of the page.  This will download a copy of the information entered so far to your computer.  You can  then reload the walk at a later time using the button

You can check the walk for any issues using the button.  Any issues will be highlighted in the “Issues:” area at the bottom of the right hand column.

Note: Not all fields are mandatory E.G. Finish time.  If the finish time is not specified then it will be estimated.

In all cases if a popup has a button in the top right corner you must use that to return to the Submit Walk page.   Using the browser’s back button will loose the information you have entered  and you will need to reenter the walk or upload it again using .

When you have completed the form you can this will allow you to send the walk to the walk coordinator you can put any comments in the box provided.   A copy of the email with a file attached will be sent to you.  The file is a json object and although it is human readable it is not intended you read or modify the contents.

The attached file can be saved and used in a future programme using the button.

Please give the things a go and don’t worry about bombarding me with emails and walk submissions. I will in fact find them useful for testing.   Any comments you have about using the form will also be useful.
